The George M. Steinbrenner Memorial Maritime Scholarship
The George M. Steinbrenner Memorial Maritime Scholarship was created at the 2014 Anchor Ball. The scholarship assists graduates of the Hillsborough County Maritime Technology Programs at Howard W. Blake High School and Thomas Jefferson High School Magnet Honors Maritime Academy with pursuing further education for careers in the Maritime industry.
The scholarships were awarded to graduates from Howard W. Blake High School in May 2015. In May 2017 the first senior class at Thomas Jefferson Magnet Maritime Academy graduated. Each year the number of students entering the Maritime Technology Programs is increasing which means that each year the number of graduating seniors and number of scholarship applicants is increasing. Students who receive a scholarship are eligible to have their scholarship renewed for each year of their degree or training program, provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
George M. Steinbrenner Memorial Maritime Scholarships are available to students graduating from the maritime technology programs who enroll in two or four year colleges or community colleges pursuing careers in the maritime industry; to students who enroll in technical schools, who are pursuing careers in the maritime industry; and to students who enroll in training or licensing programs for careers at sea. George M. Steinbrenner Memorial Maritime Scholarships are funded and administered by the Tampa Bay Maritime Scholarship Foundation.
